Gugak Orchestra – Korea National Day Celebration Concert

Welcome to a unique autumn evening as the Korean Cultural Center in Sweden in celebration of Korea's National Day presents the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Orchestra. This ensemble is one of Korea’s most distinguished and has since 1981 brought Korean traditional music to audiences around the world through its authentic and innovative performances.

Gugak, Korea’s traditional music, will be performed in a grand orchestral format – ranging from royal court music to folk melodies – where traditional Korean instruments are blended with Western elements to create an innovative soundscape.

Under the artistic direction and baton of conductor Lim Sang-kyu, the Daejeon Gugak Orchestra will present a diverse program featuring outstanding soloists: violinist Yoonseo Oh, and on the traditional wind instrument saenghwang we hear Bori Kim.  We will also experience acclaimed vocalists performing in various traditional Korean singing styles: Jooyoung Park (Jeongga), Younghee Lee (Gayageum Byeongchang), and Misuk Kim (Pansori).
