Bengan's Stage for Two – Movitz with Mikael Samuelson
About the concert
På svenskaMikael Samuelson and Bengan Janson take us back to the 18th century to accompany Movitz on his wayward journey.
Carl Michael Bellman’s alter ego Movitz is a tragicomic figure who scrapes by as a musician and tavern keeper in 1760s and 1770s Stockholm – though perhaps most notably as a tavern regular, since his drinking career proves particularly “successful”. With Bellman as their guide, Mikael Samuelson and Bengan Janson follow this Movitz through a life marked by money troubles and romantic entanglements.
Mikael Samuelson is one of Sweden’s most renowned singers, celebrated for his versatility across nearly every imaginable genre: opera, musicals, songs, film and theatre. His major breakthrough came in the late 1980s when he played the title role in The Phantom of the Opera at Oscarsteatern. He is also widely acclaimed for his interpretations of Swedish song – not least the works of Carl Michael Bellman.
Accordion virtuoso Bengan Janson defies categorisation. His joy of playing and musical curiosity have led him into the realms of jazz, Swedish folk music and popular song. Over the years, he has collaborated with virtually the entire spectrum of Sweden’s musical elite. “My driving force is meeting other musicians,” says Bengan Janson.
