About the concert

På svenska

A tribute to Jan Johansson, Georg Riedel and the legendary collaboration that resulted in the classic Jazz på svenska.

Kind of Jazz, led by pianist Jan Lundgren, has become something of an institution in Stockholm’s jazz scene. This spring tradition now enters its eighth season, presenting three new concerts in the Grünewald Hall – three distinct encounters in which Lundgren brings together musicians from various backgrounds and generations.

The first Kind of Jazz concert of the year is a heartfelt tribute to one of the most iconic albums in Swedish jazz history: Jazz på svenska from 1964 remains the best-selling jazz album in Sweden of all time, a milestone in Swedish music. Jan Lundgren and his long-time collaborator Hans Backenroth pay homage to the groundbreaking musical legacy of Jan Johansson and Georg Riedel.

“I consider him one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time,” says Jan Lundgren. “I also collaborated with Georg Riedel – in 2006 we made the album Lockrop together.” Some ten years ago, Lundgren also created a chamber music tribute to Jan Johansson – that concert can be seen on Konserthuset Play. Now, together with Hans Backenroth, he takes Jazz på svenska as a point of departure – but the programme will also feature other music.

Jan Lundgren is one of the most respected jazz pianists in the Nordic region. With over 50 albums to his name and an international career marked by stylistic versatility, he combines tradition and innovation with natural elegance.
