About the concert

På svenska

Beautiful melodies and rhythmic energy with Chopin and Boulanger.

For Frédéric Chopin, the piano was almost always at the centre. In the Cello Sonata, however, he shares the spotlight, giving the cello a prominent role. The music moves between darkness, lyrical warmth and dramatic outbursts, yet remains unmistakably Chopinesque, with sparkling passages and captivating melodies.

For many, Nadia Boulanger is known as one of the most important pedagogues of the 20th century, but she was also a distinguished conductor and composer. In the first of her Three Pieces for Cello and Piano, the cello sings expressively above a shimmering piano, while the second is introspective and reflective. In effective contrast, the third and final piece is energetic and rhythmically driven.

Cellist Åsa Strid has been a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 2003 and appears regularly in Konserthuset’s chamber music series. She is joined on this occasion by the versatile pianist Elain Olsson.
