About the concert
På svenskaDebussy in the beginning, and Karin Rehnqvist’s Beginning.
Debussy was only eighteen when he wrote his only piano trio. It is one of his very earliest surviving compositions, written long before his fame as a leading figure in musical Impressionism. Yet even here there is something strongly personal: a sensitivity to timbre, undulating melodic lines and a lyrical imagination that we recognise as distinctly Debussy.
Karin Rehnqvist’s music can be beautiful and sensuous, but also raw and challenging. In her work, she achieves the remarkable feat of drawing on the Swedish folk tradition while at the same time remaining at the forefront of contemporary classical music. In Beginning (“Begynnelse”), dark, magical sonorities emerge in the piano, forming a backdrop to the shimmering movements of the strings.
We hear violinist Jonna Simonsson, cellist Mikael Sjögren and pianist Stefan Lindgren, all members of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
