About the concert

På svenska

Jan Lundgren joins forces with the legendary Norwegian bassist. New music, a tribute to Georg Riedel and a springtime tune or two.

Led by pianist Jan Lundgren, Kind of Jazz has become something of an institution on Stockholm’s jazz scene. Now in its ninth season, this spring tradition presents three new concerts in Grünewald Hall – three distinct musical encounters in which Lundgren brings together musicians from different backgrounds and generations. This is the second concert in the series.

Norwegian bassist Arild Andersen is a giant of European jazz and has played with virtually all the greats. Or should we perhaps say that the greats of jazz, from Sonny Rollins and Dexter Gordon to Chick Corea and Stan Getz, have played with Arild Andersen? His list of credits is staggering.

“Arild and I have worked together on and off for around 15 years. We also used to have a trio with Jojje Wadenius (1945–2026) on guitar. Over the years, Arild and I have performed as a duo on a few occasions as well.”

Jan Lundgren explains that they will both contribute newly written material and pay a musical tribute to their friend and former colleague Georg Riedel (1934–2024). The concert is entitled Spring, and audiences can therefore expect “a springtime tune or two”, as Lundgren puts it.

Jan Lundgren is one of the Nordic region’s most highly regarded jazz pianists. With more than 50 albums to his name and an international career distinguished by remarkable stylistic versatility, he combines tradition and innovation with effortless elegance.
