Kind of Jazz III – From Strayhorn to Porter
About the concert
På svenskaJan Lundgren Trio och den fenomenala vokalisten Lucy Yeghiazaryan utforskar The Great American Songbook. Kanske blir det även några armeniska toner.
Led by pianist Jan Lundgren, Kind of Jazz has become something of an institution on Stockholm’s jazz scene. Now in its ninth season, this spring tradition presents three new concerts in Grünewald Hall – three distinct musical encounters in which Lundgren brings together musicians from different backgrounds and generations. This is the third and final concert in the series.
Lucy Yeghiazaryan is probably a new name to most people in Sweden. Born in Armenia, she moved to the United States in 2002 at the age of ten. Today, she is a well-established jazz vocalist with several acclaimed albums to her name, from her debut Blue Heaven (2019) to her fifth and most recent release, Hey Love! (2026).
“I discovered her online and was instantly won over. So I got in touch, and when we started discussing the repertoire, From Strayhorn to Porter seemed the natural title for this concert. She is deeply rooted in the Great American Songbook. I’ve worked with many wonderful vocalists – including Deborah Brown and Stacey Kent – and I’m now looking forward to performing with Lucy Yeghiazaryan. As well as jazz standards, perhaps we’ll hear some Armenian folk music too? I certainly hope so.”
Jan Lundgren is one of the Nordic region’s most highly regarded jazz pianists. With more than 50 albums to his name and an international career distinguished by remarkable stylistic versatility, he combines tradition and innovation with effortless elegance. This time, he is joined by his own trio. Founded in 1995, the Jan Lundgren Trio has toured the world and released a string of acclaimed albums. Bassist Mattias Svensson has been a member since the beginning, while drummer Zoltán Csörsz has been with the trio for 20 years.
