About the concert

På svenska

Music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Muzio Clementi and Robert Schumann.

Beatrice Rana is one of the most sought-after soloists on the international concert stage, performing with leading orchestras across both Europe and the United States. In October, she joins the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Ryan Bancroft in Brahms’s Second Piano Concerto.

She also gives acclaimed recitals and has, in particular, explored the music of Johann Sebastian Bach in depth; her recording of the Goldberg Variations has received wide international recognition.

In this recital, she performs Bach’s wonderful Italian Concerto. The music was written for harpsichord, yet creates the impression of an interplay between a soloist and an orchestra, with striking contrasts in sound and dynamics. We also hear an early 19th-century sonata by Muzio Clementi, depicting the tragic fate of Virgil’s heroine Dido, as well as Robert Schumann’s portrayal of a carnival procession, both dreamlike and passionate.
