About the concert
På svenskaDanish playfulness with Gade and Slavic tones in Pejačević.
Niels W. Gade’s third and final violin sonata is both warmly Romantic and playful. In the 19th century, Gade was Denmark’s most internationally renowned composer and a friend of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. He was himself an accomplished violinist and, in addition to his three sonatas, also wrote a violin concerto.
The Croatian composer Dora Pejačević was also a distinctive figure in her lifetime. She began composing at the age of twelve and, in the early 20th century, toured as a piano soloist performing her own works. Her music shows influences of Wagner, Brahms and Bruckner, yet is also strongly personal – here with certain Slavic elements.
Claudia Bonfiglioli is principal second violin of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and appears regularly in Konserthuset’s chamber music series. The versatile pianist Karin Haglund has toured worldwide and is a sought-after accompanist in opera, theatre and chamber music. The two have collaborated on several previous occasions.
