About the concert

Talks, an exhibition and a performance exploring a tradition that has been part of Konserthuset since it opened in 1926.

Immediately after Konserthuset opened, eurhythmics and music educator Karin Fredga moved her music school into the building and introduced Dalcroze eurhythmics. A hundred years later, this living tradition is celebrated during Konserthuset’s centenary year with talks, an exhibition and a short dance and music performance on the foyer staircase.

Music and movement were at the heart of Karin Fredga’s teaching. In Aulin Hall, generations of children learned about music with “Aunt Karin”, “Aunt Lulle” – Dagmar Wide – and “Aunt Ebba” – Ebba Burton. Many young adults also trained here as eurhythmics teachers.

The teaching in Aulin Hall marked the beginning of a tradition that continues to this day. A clear line connects the early courses at Konserthuset, through the Swedish Dalcroze Institute, to today’s training at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where new generations of musicians and educators carry Dalcroze eurhythmics forward and explore its potential.During the afternoon, you are invited on a historical journey in words and images through these hundred years, from Karin Fredga’s music school to the continued development of eurhythmics and its place today. Under the heading The Potential of Eurhythmics Today, several recipients of the Wide Scholarship come together for seminars and discussions. They explore how the artistic and educational possibilities of eurhythmics remain as relevant today as they were a hundred years ago.
