Nobel theme – A conversation with Horace Engdahl

The writings of Nobel Prize laureates have inspired generations of composers. During a themed week at Konserthuset Stockholm, literature and music come together in concerts and conversations highlighting the close relationship between the two art forms. The themed week coincides with the announcement of this year’s Nobel Prize laureate in Literature.

Ahead of this evening’s concert with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Horace Engdahl of the Swedish Academy joins Konserthuset’s Executive and Artistic Director Susanne Rydén for a conversation about Nobel Prize laureates and their relationship with music. The seminar is followed by the evening’s concert, in which the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra gives the world premiere of a new orchestral work by Britta Byström, inspired by the poetry of Poland’s Wisława Szymborska.

This week’s Lied concert on 13 October focuses on settings of texts by Nobel Prize laureates in Literature. On 17 October, the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir gives a concert centred on Sven-David Sandström’s Nordic Mass, with words by Tomas Tranströmer.
