Five Wednesdays at 19.00
Music and lyrics are woven together, turning music into poetry and poetry into music. At the popular lied evenings, we hear our time’s major and established singers, as well as rising stars. British tenor Mark Padmore and Swedish soprano Christina Nilsson are two such examples.

It was not long before she also had major international successes. In recent seasons, she has portrayed Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, debuted as Tosca at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, and sang Aida at Deutsche Oper in Berlin.
Christina Nilsson has performed at Konserthuset Stockholm several times before, and we are thrilled to welcome her back. The richly varied programme includes Rachmaninoff’s hypnotically beautiful Vokalise, Liszt’s three virtuosic and contrast-filled Petrarca Sonettos, as well as a group of songs by Richard Strauss. We also hear British-American composer Rebecca Clarke’s charged and romantic drama, The Seal Man, and contemporary Swedish music: Johan Ullén’s Don’t Go Without Me.
Versatile pianist Magnus Svensson specialises in the art of lied, and he has served as artistic director of Lied Evenings for several seasons. In addition to concerts in the Nordic region and elsewhere in Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the US. Since 2012, he has also worked at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music with re-publishing older Swedish music.

He also collaborates often with pianists like Mitsuko Uchida and Paul Lewis.
In a programme that sticks closely to the primary masters of music history, we hear songs by Beethoven – an often neglected aspect of his works, even if the song cycle An die ferne Geliebte (To the Distant Beloved) is among his better-known creations. The second part of the concert is dedicated to Robert Schumann, who of course took significant inspiration from Beethoven. Of Liederkreis, Robert said to his wife Clara that it was his “most romantic music ever, with a great deal of you in it.”
Together with Mark Padmore, we hear pianist Magnus Svensson, who specialises in the art of lied, and who has served as artistic director of Lied Evenings for several seasons. In addition to concerts in the Nordic region and elsewhere in Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the US. Since 2012, he has also worked at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music with re-publishing older Swedish music.

She is often in demand on the major international stages and only in recent seasons has she been seen in combinations at the opera in Vienna, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Oper Frankfurt, and English Glyndebourne.
The first part of the programme is French-Austrian, with songs by Gabriel Fauré and Nadia Boulanger, and as the leading number, we hear Mahler’s stunningly beautiful Rückert-Lieder. After intermission, the language transitions to English, including American Aaron Copland’s Emily Dickinson song cycle, with distinctive influences from Fauré and Mahler.
Louise Alder performs with versatile pianist Magnus Svensson, who has served as artistic director of Lied Evenings for several seasons. In addition to concerts in the Nordic region and elsewhere in Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the US. Since 2012, he has also worked at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music with re-publishing older Swedish music.

Since then, she has been considered one of Europe’s elite singers. She won a Grammy for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album and was appointed Kammersängerin at the Berlin State Opera.
Dorothea Röschmann appeared in her first lied concert at Konserthuset in 2021, which can be seen on Konserthuset Play. Since then, she debuted with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance in autumn 2022 of Wagner’s Wesendonck songs. Since first collaborating at Konserthuset, Röschmann and pianist Magnus Svensson have performed together elsewhere in the world.
Magnus Svensson has served as artistic director of Lied Evenings for several seasons. In addition to concerts in the Nordic region and elsewhere in Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the US.
