Haiou Meng

Member of the orchestra since 1995.

Haiou Meng has been a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 1995 and plays in the first violin section. Previously, she played with the Royal Swedish Orchestra and was principal alternate concertmaster with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra.

Haiou Meng grew up in the city of Nanchang, capital of the province of Jiangxi, in southern China. She studied first with her father and then at the music conservatory in Beijing. A scholarship from the British Council subsequently gave her the opportunity to continue her studies with Yfrah Neaman at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London.

During the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic’s tour of China in 2001, she performed as a soloist in Atterberg’s Suite No. 3 for Violin, Viola and Strings. The following year, she was also a soloist in Henri Vieuxtemps’ Violin Concerto with the orchestra in the Main Hall of Konserthuset. She is also deeply engaged with chamber music and in 2000, she founded the Meng Quartet, which has played in Konserthuset’s chamber music subscriptions on several occasions and has also toured China. Haoiu Meng was appointed Philharmonic Member of the Year in 2003.
