RSPO Orchestra Academy
RSPO Orchestra Academy – one year of education offered on site at Konserthuset Stockholm in collaboration with the Piteå School of Music at the Luleå University of Technology.
Since January 2016, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra (RSPO) offers one year of training on site at Konserthuset Stockholm. The RSPO Orchestra Academy aims to give participating students heightened knowledge and understanding of the profession by giving them the possibility to work with – and alongside – one of Europe’s leading symphony orchestras.
During the academy the students will participate in 8–12 regular concert productions with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by world-renowned conductors, a unique possibility to get familiarised with the core symphonic repertoire. The students will receive individual tuition on their instrument by tutors that are predominantly leaders and principals of the orchestra. In addition, extensive chamber music playing is a vital part of the course as well as seminars in stage presence and orchestral praxis. The students will also have ”mock auditions” to prepare them for real life situations when applying for a position in a symphony orchestra.
The next course start for RSPO Orchestra Academy is planned for the fall term of 2018. Application period is 15 February–15 March 2018.Auditions will take place at Konserthuset Stockholm 28 April (French horns), 29 April (woodwinds and strings) and 30 April (strings) 2018.
Students admitted to RSPO Orchestra Academy receive a grant of €800 per month for 8,5 months. The grant assumes the student’s full participation and deductions may incur should the student be absent and/or miss parts of the course.
