Matts Arnberg was born and raised in Dala-Floda. As a child, he was deeply inspired by folk music and began playing violin. He continued his studies with Gert Crafoord and Wille Sundling at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and with Helen Airoff-Dowling and Manoug Parikian in London.
Arnberg began as a substitute with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 1984 and has been a permanent employee since 1987. From 1996–1998, he was also concertmaster in the Dalasinfoniettan. In addition to his position with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Matts Arnberg is active as a chamber musician in various constellations and frequently appears in Konserthuset’s various chamber music subscriptions.
He has been teaching folk music, ensemble performance and violin at the Lilla Akademien music school in Stockholm for several years, and for the last 30 years he has arranged concerts at the event Komidsommaren in Dala-Floda – a mini festival that weaves in Floda’s rich folk culture in various ways. Matts Arnberg also holds the title of Riksspelman (“National Folk Musician”).
