About the concert

På svenska

One of the most influential voices in jazz, together with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Wynton Marsalis appears at Konserthuset, joined by the legendary Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra – an ensemble of some of today’s finest jazz musicians.

Since 1988, the orchestra has been the heart of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, based at Frederick P. Rose Hall – “The House of Swing”. Under Marsalis’s direction, the ensemble has developed a repertoire spanning from the historical roots of jazz to newly composed works. Here, music by Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Thelonious Monk meets new compositions and arrangements – including those by Marsalis himself. A festive seasonal atmosphere is promised for this concert.

Wynton Marsalis is a multiple Grammy Award winner and the first jazz composer to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Born in New Orleans and educated at Juilliard, he has for more than four decades combined virtuosity with a deep commitment to the history and future of jazz.

Jazz at Lincoln Center also has an extensive educational mission, reaching more than 100,000 young people each year through concerts, workshops and school programmes.
