Rachmaninov’s Third Symphony
About the concert
På svenskaMelodic, passionate and richly coloured. Matthias Pintscher leads the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
Rachmaninov’s Third Symphony opens with a melodic signature that returns in various forms throughout all the movements. The music also carries many of Rachmaninov’s characteristic traits, such as heartfelt melodies, powerful climaxes and Romantic passion.
The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra is led by Matthias Pintscher, an internationally active conductor and composer with a keen ear for tonal balance and detail. Pintscher is particularly noted for his interpretations of music from different periods, where he brings together tradition and the present day.
The concert opens with Olga Neuwirth’s Dreydl, a colourful and concentrated orchestral work full of surprises, in which fragments, rhythm and timbre are set against one another. Neuwirth is one of Europe’s most significant contemporary composers, fearless and experimental. In 2022, she was at the centre of Konserthuset’s annual international Composer Festival.
