About the concert
På svenskaClose interplay marked by both playfulness and dramatic intensity.
Sergei Prokofiev’s Sonata for Two Violins is one of the most significant works for violin duo in the 20th century. The two instruments meet in a compelling interplay, with incisive rhythms, lucid textures and a strong sense of playfulness.
Anna Rocławska-Musiałczyk’s music is irresistible and engaging. In Two Contrasts, which opens the concert, we hear richly melodic and energetically driven music, alive with intensity. This Polish composer, born in 1987, has in recent years attracted attention at several international festivals and composition competitions.
To conclude, we hear the Hungarian-American Miklós Rózsa’s Sonata for Two Violins, vibrant with melodic drama and Hungarian inflections. Rózsa is best known for having composed music for more than one hundred films. He received seventeen Academy Award nominations – and won three, including for the monumental score to Ben-Hur.
The performers are violinists Martyna Kaszkowiak and Joanna Paluch, both members of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
