Jakob Nilsson

Member of the orchestra since 2023.

Jakob Nilsson has been a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 2023. He grew up in Stockholm and spent six years studying at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, under Professor Jonas Bylund and Sverre Riise. At the end of his master’s studies – just before graduating – he was offered the position with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

Jakob Nilsson began playing the trombone at the age of eight at Nacka Music School. During his upper secondary years, he attended Lilla Akademien’s music programme, studying with Mikael Oskarsson.

In addition to his principal teachers, Jakob Nilsson has taken part in a number of masterclasses with leading trombonists – including James Markey, Nitzan Haroz, Tomer Machkowski and Ian Bousfield.

In 2022 he won the Signal Prize, a prestigious competition for young brass players in Sweden. This led to a solo appearance with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra in the autumn of 2024.

Jakob Nilsson has also performed with several other Nordic orchestras, including the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra, the Arctic Philharmonic in Norway and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
