Nicholas Shardlow
Member of the orchestra since 2023.
English-born Nicholas Shardlow has been a member of the viola section of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 2023. He studied violin at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester and musicology and composition at Cambridge University. During these years, he participated in numerous masterclasses and, among other engagements, was part of the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme. He has been a member of the British string quartet Solstice and is an experienced chamber musician.
It was upon moving to Sweden that Nicholas Shardlow switched to viola and began focusing more on orchestral playing. He joined the RSPO Orchestra Academy in 2018, and the same year, he took up the position of principal viola at the Malmö Opera Orchestra. He has also worked as assistant principal viola with several Nordic orchestras, including the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, and Oslo Philharmonic.
Nicholas Shardlow is a dedicated chamber musician and is also active as a composer, arranger, and soloist.
