El Sistema

A global movement that uses music as a tool.

El Sistema is a global music movement that gives kids and teens the chance to grow by playing music and singing together. In Sweden, this initiative is run primarily via local music and culture schools.

El Sistema Södertälje has collaborated with Konserthuset and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra for a long time. Kids and teens involved with El Sistema Södertälje get to meet orchestra musicians regularly. The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra has also performed concerts with El Sistema Södertälje. These richly educational encounters have a significant impact on inspiring kids and teens and helping them grow.

The El Sistema National Orchestra was created in autumn 2019 through a collaboration between the El Sistema Sweden Foundation and Stim. The debut concert, featuring 45 young musicians, was held in Konserthuset Stockholm’s Main Hall in autumn 2019. The El Sistema National Orchestra is now a collaboration between Konserthuset Stockholm, El Sistema Södertälje and the national network for El Sistema in Sweden.

Since then, this has become an annual orchestra camp over autumn break, which culminates in a concert performed by young musicians. The orchestra now has about 60 young people from all over Sweden. Professional musicians from ensembles such as the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and its Orchestra Academy support the learning of these kids and teens.
