Marco Mezquida Trio
About the concert
På svenskaThe acclaimed jazz pianist Marco Mezquida makes his Konserthuset debut with his trio.
The Menorca-born, Barcelona-based pianist Marco Mezquida may still be a relatively unfamiliar name in these parts, but elsewhere in Europe he is firmly established. His discography is extensive, and he has appeared on more than 100 albums. His many collaborations include jazz musicians such as Lee Konitz and Dave Liebman, as well as artists including flamenco guitarist Chicuelo and fado singer Lina.
Over the course of his career, Mezquida has received numerous awards and accolades for his music and recordings. He has often been described as a “piano magician” and as “magnetic”. His musical world moves freely between jazz, classical music, flamenco, folk music, pop and free improvisation.
The jazz trio he leads has now been performing together for ten years. Their fourth and most recent album, Táctil, was released in February this year. Marco Mezquida explains why he chose the title: “At first glance, music is not tactile. It is ethereal, immaterial, intangible, weightless. Sound waves travel through the air and disappear. And yet I experience this music in a tactile way – physically, three-dimensionally, tangibly.”
