About the concert

På svenska

The acclaimed German baritone Thomas Quasthoff joins forces with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in a tribute to Frank Sinatra.

Thomas Quasthoff is one of the great vocal personalities of our time. For decades, he has been a leading figure in the German-language Lieder tradition, with interpretations of Schubert, Mahler and other great Lieder composers distinguished by warmth and a captivating ability to bring the meaning of the text to life.

At the same time, Quasthoff has achieved something few classical singers have managed: to make the Great American Songbook his own with the same instinctive sense of style. Classical repertoire has always remained at the heart of his artistry, but he has repeatedly returned to jazz and American standards, recording several acclaimed albums.

At this eagerly awaited Twelfth Night concert, Thomas Quasthoff pays tribute to Frank Sinatra – the legendary crooner who made immortal melodies his own. The programme includes classics such as My Way and Strangers in the Night. Sinatra’s artistry was not built on grand gestures, but on presence, elegant phrasing and an unfailing sensitivity to the nuances of words.

It is precisely here that the musical worlds of Frank Sinatra and Thomas Quasthoff meet. Whether Quasthoff is singing Schubert or repertoire associated with Sinatra, storytelling is always at the heart of his performance. The programme also features orchestral music framing a Twelfth Night concert filled with timeless numbers from the Great American Songbook.
