Concerts

Welcome to a world of music. Each week of the concert season, Konserthuset Stockholm welcomes the leading musicians of the international music scene in a wide variety of genres. Orchestral music with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, family concerts, chamber music, jazz and world music. Each season, we present some 200 concerts in our own programming, and around 40 concerts by external promoters.

Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra

The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra forms the core of Konserthuset’s extensive operations, performing over 100 concerts annually. Guest conductors and soloists alike commend the orchestra’s high level of excellence and many especially point out the ambitious and curious attitude of the musicians.

The orchestra’s history dates back further than the history of the Konserthuset building – indeed, the orchestra is the reason the building exists! The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra was formed in 1902, and in 1926, Konserthuset was complete.

The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra has its own section here on the website where you can read more about its history, current news, and about all 105 musicians.

Orchestral guest performances

Each year, we present a selection of the preeminent international orchestras here at Konserthuset. You shouldn’t have to travel to London, Vienna or Paris to experience the most legendary ensembles.

Each year, we also welcome several of the country’s other orchestras for guest performances at our venue.

Chamber music

Chamber music has an important place in a thorough presentation of the classical repertoire. We therefore focus on having an expansive offering in this smaller format. String quartets, lieder and piano recitals; yes, most types of chamber music can be found on the programme, along with regular performances of contemporary music and baroque repertoire. The musicians of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra appear in their own programming in the subscription series Filharmoniker i närbild and Soppkonserter.

With close to 70 concerts per year, chamber music comprises the majority of the concert offering, next to performances by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

Jazz

Even on the jazz side, the greatest international musicians present guest performances. Regular concerts by our own big band, Blue House Jazz Orchestra, led by Peter Asplund and Magnus Lindgren, comprise another cornerstone.

Global music

Blue House World is the collective name of Konserthuset’s concerts by global stars from different cultures. Salif Keita, Youssou N'Dour and Mohsen Namjoo are some of the musicians who have rocked out at Konserthuset. Most of the world music is presented in collaboration with partners such as Selam or Riksteatern.

Organ

The organ at Konserthuset is one of the largest in Scandinavia. Our organ matinée subscription annually features some of Sweden’s leading organists. “The queen of instruments” also has a place in other concert activities, and encountering the organ is an exciting experience for many children. Organ activities are led by Konserthuset’s organist Ulf Norberg.

Choir

Konserthuset Stockholm has a very close partnership with the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, one of the world's most distinguished ensembles. The chamber choir participates in most of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s concerts with pieces for choir, and also gives several of its own concerts each year.
