The music being played

Grande Finale contains all seven symphonies, the Violin Concerto, Luonnotar (Nature’s Daughter) and Two pieces for cello and orchestra.

In this section you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the music and learn more about all the pieces performed during the festival.

The texts on the symphonies were written by Ilkka Oramo, Sakari Oramo’s father, who is a musicologist and professor emeritus at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Ilkka Oramo studied musicology under Erik Tawaststjerna, Sibelius’ great biographer, and he was also Chairman of the Sibelius Academy Foundation.

In addition to the commentaries, statistics and interesting details are presented that relate each of the pieces to the history of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
