Weekend Pick #8

Programme Manager Fredrik Andersson digs into our film archives and presents his pick of the week.

Welcome to Konserthuset Play and the Weekend Pick. Fredrik Andersson, Programme Manager of Konserthuset Stockholm, has put together entire concert programmes from our film archives. In the digital world there is also the possibilty of mixing chamber music with major orchestral pieces.

”Two different generations of brilliant Finnish conductors – our own wonderful chief conductor Sakari Oramo and Santtu-Matias Rouvali from the Gothenburg Symphony – in two life affirmative symphonies. When we are unable to travel the world, music comes to our assistance. Dvorák would soon embark on the long journey to the US when he had finished his eighth symphony, and the Russian master of orchestration, Rimsky-Korsakov, takes us on a magnificent ride into the Orient and the folk tales of The Thousand and One Nights.”

Antonín Dvorák's life-affirming Eighth Symphony – this nature-inspired music, filled with joy and effervescent energy – is interpreted here by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Sakari Oramo.

Online again! A new chance to experience Rimsky-Korsakov's amazing orchestral colours in the suggestive Scheherazade suite. The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Santtu-Matias Rouvali. The famous violin solo is played by the orchestra's principal concertmaster Andrej Power.
